Adrenal Fatigue, Caffeine and Adrenal Crashes

Adrenal Fatigue, Caffeine and Adrenal Crashes

Coffee, tea and energy drinks are so prevelant
in society today, its acceptable to fill your body with these – I would say not so natural
– compounds. Although they are natural in the sense they do exist in nature, they are
never designed to be in our body that many people put them in. Now this is Dr Lam founder
of Dr Now we talk about these compounds in relation
to adrenal fatigue and how they can actually sustain the body when energy is low, and they
can crash the body if there is too much. Now in adrenal fatigue the body is in the
weakest point and the body wants to be nurtured. Its like a horse that is tired, the body is
not feeling so well. You need rest, the body needs rest, and that is why the body slows
down. Oftentimes we don’t recognize that, we don’t
want to accept that and we keeps the body going and the way we do it is with coffee
that has caffeine and tea that has 15% caffeine unless decaffeinated, and energy drinks can
have up to two times the amount of caffeine as coffee. So if you do this over a period
of time, several things will happen. The body will get stimulated. Number two, the heart
gets stimulated. Number three, the adrenal glands get stimulated. If you stimulate the body enough its like
stretching a rubber band; the more you stretch at first – rebounds if you stretch it – after
enough times the rubber band will break. This is what happens then, people start with one
energy drink, two and then three, they keep going until they can’t stop; after awhile
they become “wired.” They cannot sleep at night but they cannot stop either because
they are already having a dependency issue, and if you try and get out of those you can
get headaches. That’s not the worst though actually, after a while you are not only wired
in the day but you are tired at night and cannot fall asleep. Then the body starts crashing. In other words the body will force the system
to slow down to conserve energy. It doesn’t matter what you do, you take more coffee,
you think that the body will be more energized but actually the body will overrule the coffee
and overrule the caffeine and forces you to lay down in an almost vegetative state. Many will become bedridden, couchbound, housebound;
they cannot stand up. The moment they stand up they have so much caffeine in the system
they can get rapid heartrate, they can get even more dehydrated, they can get more fatigue,
they have dizziness. All these can be associated. The important lesson to learn is this: energy
drinks should be taken only with great great care. If you need it from time to time and you are
in a healthy state, chances are your body will do well. If you’re in adrenal fatigue,
you should avoid it, and if you’re already on these items do not stop abruptly because
your body may overreact; and also an important thing to remember is these items can give
you a short term energy boost, but long term you’ll have a lot of collateral damage, and
part of that collateral damage is in the adrenal glands because most people don’t see that;
it’s often taken for granted, but it is not as simple. Especially as you get older, some people now
are very sensitive to caffeine and caffeinated products for a reason. The reason is often
because the body is already overstimulated, so having caffeinated drinks and having a
letdown in energy as what we call an adrenal crash is very significant and an important
indicator as an adrenal fatigue symptom. I hope you’ve enjoyed this video. For more

  1. My husband has been on energy drinks for 22 yrs, such as red bull, monster, cola, etc. now he's 44 and has osteoarthritis, so he had to change his diet, BUT now being off the caffeine and sodas…he shows true exhaustion, depressed, and he wants to sleep all day. I've never seen him like this before; he's now someone else. Now, how do I help him bring back his adrenal strength?
